What is a futures tick chart?
Tick charts represent the count of intraday trades: a new bar (or candlestick, line section, etc.) is plotted after completion of a certain number of trades (ticks). This aggregation type can be used on intraday charts with time interval up to five days.
Since each tick in the S&P 500 E-mini is worth 0.25, there are four ticks to a point. In gold futures, where the tick size is 0.10, there are 10 ticks to a point. Since ticks are fractions of a point, their dollar value (or "tick value") depends on the futures contract being traded.
These futures contracts are deemed “micro” because they are 1/10th the size of standard e-mini Nasdaq-100 futures. MNQ contracts are priced at $2 times[1] [2] the Nasdaq-100 Index, and each tick is worth $0.50, compared to $5 for the NQ contract.
How to Read Tick Charts? Understanding the distinctive features of tick charts is necessary to read them: Candle Representation: Each candle on a tick chart stands in for a certain amount of trades. In those deals, a shorter candle denotes less price movement, while a longer candle denotes greater volatility.
A Tick is similar to a Pip, but it may not measure every increment equally. For example, A Tick on one instrument may be measured in increments of 0.0001 whereas another instrument may be measured in increments of 0.25. A Tick is simply the smallest increment a particular instrument can move in.
For day trading, 1000 ticks and 2000 ticks are the most common used. There is no best number of ticks to trade with. Different traders use different strategies on tick charts that suits them best. You just have to test different settings and select the one you feel most comfortable trading with.
On a 100 tick chart, each candlestick corresponds to the price evolution on 100 consecutive ticks (or 100 consecutive transactions/exchanges). It is then clear that tick charts are not linear over time; 100 ticks can be performed in 5 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day, depending on the volatility of the stock in question.
Adult ticks are about the size of an apple seed, nymphs are about the size of a poppy seed, and larva are the size of a grain of sand. Finally, when ticks feed, they swell with blood, which can also make them difficult to recognize. Ticks are small!

What is the Pip and the Tick? Both terms are similar and one or the other is usually used depending on the financial asset. However, when brokers offer currency pairs with 5 decimal places (or 3 decimal places for JPY pairs), as is the case with Darwinex, 1 pip is equivalent to 10 ticks.
