Google Wallet - how it works

Google Wallet uses contactless payment technology to ensure a convenient, faster and safer way to pay.

To access Google Pay, ensure you have a compatible Android mobile device or wearable.

You can register for Google Wallet from the banking app or from the Google Wallet App, authenticate, accept Tc & Cs and make payments with just a tap.

Apple Pay - how it works

Apple Pay uses proprietary Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies to make contactless mobile payments. This means that you can make a secure contactless payment virtually anywhere on any contactless enabled payment terminal.

Samsung Pay - how it works

Samsung Pay uses proprietary Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies to make contactless mobile payments. This means that you can make a secure contactless payment virtually anywhere on any payment terminal, whether it is a contactless enabled terminal or not.

Samsung Pay supports CD-CVM (Consumer Device-Customer Verification Method). This means when making payments, you would only have to unlock your device with your passcode or biometrics, then hold your device near the contactless symbol at the POS device. This allows you to enjoy a more seamless payment experience.

All you have to do is load your FNB card details onto the Fitbit Pay™ App, authenticate using the OTP received and make payments with ease from your wrist with just a tap.

Garmin Pay - how it works

FNB Pay, along with Garmin Pay™ use contactless payment technology to ensure a convenient, faster and safer way to pay.

To access Garmin Pay™, check the Garmin website to ensure you have a compatible device.

How to add your FNB card to Google Wallet

Add card from the FNB App

  1. Log in to your FNB App
  2. Select 'Cards'
  3. Select card or virtual card
  4. Select 'Add to Google Wallet'
  5. Follow steps

You can manage your Google Pay digital cards on the FNB App under Settings > Wallets + Subscription

Add card from the Google Wallet App

  1. Download the Google Wallet App from Play Store
  2. Open the Google Wallet App
  3. Select 'Payments' from the options at the bottom of the screen
  4. Select '+ Payment method'
  5. Enter card details and scroll down to 'Save'
  6. Accept issuers Terms and Conditions by scrolling down to 'Accept and Continue'
  7. Your card will be authenticated - do not exit screen. We will contact your bank
  8. Select verification method (for OTP) and tap 'Continue'
  9. Enter verification code sent and select submit
  10. Card is ready to use with Google Wallet

Set up Apple Pay on your FNB App

Log in to your FNB App

  1. Select 'Cards'
  2. Select card or virtual card
  3. Select 'Add to Apple Wallet'
  4. Follow steps

You can manage your Apple Pay digital cards on the FNB App under Settings > Wallets + Subscriptions

How to set up Samsung Pay on your phone

  • Verify that you are running the latest version of firmware on your Samsung smartphone
  • If you see a Samsung Pay icon on your device, select the icon and follow the onscreen prompts, alternatively, you can download Samsung Pay from the Google Play store

How to add your FNB card to Samsung Pay on your phone

  • Launch your Samsung Pay App from your application list
  • Navigate to the Home tab and select 'Payment Cards'
  • Press the 'Add Card' button
  • Payment cards can be added to Samsung Pay by either scanning your actual card, tapping your contactless card on the back of your Samsung Galaxy smartphone or entering the card information manually
  • Select 'Next' and the FNB Terms of Service will be displayed. Agree to the Terms of Service to proceed
  • You will then be prompted to verify that you have permission to add this card to Samsung Pay. Select SMS and, if prompted, the phone number you would like the OTP to be sent to
  • If you have the FNB Banking App installed on your phone, check your messages in the app to get your OTP. If not, you will receive an SMS with your OTP
  • Enter the OTP into the provided field and select 'Submit'
  • Sign on the screen as prompted and select 'Save' to complete the process

How to make a payment with your phone

  • Initiate Samsung Pay by either swiping up from the bottom of the device on the home screen, lock screen or opening the Samsung Pay App
  • Select the card you want to pay with by swiping left or right
  • Authenticate using your fingerprint or your 4-digit Samsung Pay PIN
  • Place your phone near the magnetic card reader or NFC reader to complete the transaction

How to set up Samsung Pay on your watch

  • Verify that your Samsung watch is paired to your mobile device and that you have the latest firmware installed on your Samsung watch
  • Open your Samsung wearable app on your phone, navigate to 'Settings' and select 'Samsung Pay'
  • Follow the onscreen prompts to set up your Samsung Pay

How to add your FNB card to Samsung Pay on your Samsung watch

  • Open you Samsung wearable app on your phone, navigate to the Settings tab and select Samsung Pay
  • Select 'Add' to start adding the card
  • Payment cards can be added to Samsung Pay by either scanning your actual card, tapping your contactless card on the back of your Samsung Galaxy smartphone or entering the card information manually
  • Select 'Next' and the FNB Terms of Service will be displayed. Agree to the Terms of Service to proceed

How to make a payment with your Samsung watch

  • Initiate Samsung Pay by holding down the button on the top right of the watch for a few seconds
  • If you have not yet authenticated yourself, type in your user selected Samsung Pay PIN on the Samsung watch
  • Select the card you want to pay with by swiping left and right or by rotating the bezel
  • Tap the 'Pay' button at the bottom of the Samsung watch screen
  • Place your Samsung watch near the NFC reader of the payment terminal to complete the transaction

Fitbit setup process

How to set up Fitbit Pay™ onto your device

  • Open the Fitbit App on your phone
  • Select 'Set-up a Device
  • Accept Fitbit Terms and Conditions
  • Create device PIN
  • Device will now appear on list of devices

How to add your card on Fitbit Pay™

  1. Open the Fitbit App on your phone
  2. Tap the picture of your watch on the top left corner
  3. Select 'Fitbit Wallet'
  4. Enter FNB card details as listed
  5. Accept Terms and Conditions
  6. Tap the 'Activate on Ionic' or whichever Fitbit device name you have

Please note, the PIN code is to prevent others from making payments using your watch.

Every time you wear your Fitbit you will be required to enter this 4-digit PIN. For your security, the Fitbit stays in an authenticated mode for 24 hours or until you take your Fitbit watch off your wrist.

You can switch cards any time on the Fitbit mobile App and your card number/details will never be stored on your device or Fitbit services. When you pay, your card numbers/details will never be shared by Fitbit merchants.

Step-by-step authentication on Fitbit

  1. Open Fitbit App on your phone
  2. Tap the picture of your watch on top left corner
  3. Select 'Fitbit Wallet'
  4. Set up a 4-digit PIN

How to make a payment

  1. Press and hold the left button on Fitbit
  2. Hold the Fitbit display near the card reader
  3. Tap onto card reader. You will feel a pulse and see a Check mark on the Fitbit display meaning Payment is complete

How to maintain your card

  • Should you wish to change your cards, all maintenance can be done on the Fitbit Mobile App

To access this service, ensure you have a compatible Fitbit device and have downloaded the devices app to your phone. You may find a list of compatible devices and device set-up guides on the Fitbit website www.fitbit.com.

Garmin setup process

How to set up Garmin Pay™ onto your device

  • Download and launch Garmin Connect App on your smartphone
  • Follow instructions to set up a Garmin Connect account or sign into an existing account
  • Pair your device to Garmin Connect by following the on-screen instructions - ensure Bluetooth is turned on your smartphone and your device is in phone pairing mode
  • During set up, it will ask you if you want to set-up Garmin Pay™ now. Alternatively, you can set this up later in Garmin Connect App by going to Garmin Devices - Select your device - Select Garmin Pay™
  • Select 'Create your Wallet'

How to add your FNB card onto Garmin Pay™

  • Create a 4-digit passcode to secure the wallet on your device
  • Select 'VISA' to add your FNB card to the wallet
  • Enter FNB card details or select 'Scan my card' to take a picture of your FNB bank card

Step up authentication

  • Select 'Step up authentication' method (SMS/email)
  • Enter OTP received from FNB

How to make a payment

  • Press and hold button on device to open the controls menu page and navigate to the Wallet icon
  • Select the Wallet icon
  • Enter your 4-digit passcode
  • Your card will appear on screen. To switch cards swipe down or press the down button
  • You will be prompted to hold your device near the card reader
  • The watch will vibrate and display a green checkmark when the payment has been successful
  • While you are wearing the watch, you can make payments for the rest of the day without entering your passcode again. If you disable heart rate monitoring by removing the watch from your wrist or 24 hours has lapsed you must enter your passcode again before making a payment.

How to maintain your card

  • You can view your wallet in the Garmin Connect App. Tap 'Garmin Devices' then select your device to view it
  • Select 'Manage my wallet'
  • Select a payment card
  • Options to temporarily suspend your card or delete it from your wallet will be displayed

SwatchPAY! setup process

Android and iOS setup

  • Download the SwatchPAY! App by wearonize from the Google Play Store or Apple App store
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions
  • Sign in or create SwatchPAY! account
  • Add card by selecting the '+' option on the top right of the screen
  • Scan or type the payment card credentials
  • Select your SwatchPAY! and name it
  • To start the process, choose 'Activate with phone'
  • Hold your watch against the back of the phone to find the NFC connection
  • Once connection is confirmed, hold your watch steadily against the phone
  • Wait for the first 3 circles to turn green
  • Accept Terms and Conditions from FNB
  • Remove the watch
  • Select authentication method (e.g. SMS or email)
  • Insert the OTP details

The activation is complete. Enjoy paying with your watch.

  1. Open the Mi Fitness App
  2. Select the 'Device' tab
  3. Confirm connection to the Xiaomi watch
  4. Select 'Xiaomi Pay' & unlock your wearable device
