Maine House of Representatives (2024)

The Maine House consists of 151 individuals, (81 Democrats, 68 Republicans, 2 Independents and currently 0 Vacancies) Plus seats for three nonvoting members representing the Penobscot Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe and the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians. Each House member is elected to a two-year term and represents a district which has approximately 9,000 people as of the 2020 census. Their occupations range from teachers to lawyers to health care professionals. They all have one thing in common – they have given up part of their private lives to serve the people of Maine in the Legislature.

Session Schedule

The Legislature convenes for its first regular session on the first Wednesday of December, following the general election. The statutory adjournment date for the first regular session is the third Wednesday in June. The second regular session begins on the first Wednesday after the first Tuesday of January in the subsequent even-numbered year, and has a statutory adjournment date of the third Wednesday in April.
