How to Unlock Alohom*ora

If you don't already have Alohamora, you'll unlock this important spell as you play the main quests in Hogwarts Legacy. Specifically, you'll get the Alohom*ora spell in the quest The Caretaker's Lunar Lament.

How to Open Locks in Hogwarts Legacy

Like many spells and upgrades in the game, you'll need to progress far enough in the main questline to acquire them; the same goes for the charm required to pick these locks—the Alohom*ora Charm.

Also known as the Unlocking Charm, Alohom*ora is the last Essential Spell you can unlock in Hogwarts Legacy. There are two main quests you'll need to complete to learn the charm:

  1. Percival Rackham's Trial: After finding out the location of the Tap to Reveal underneath Hogwarts, you'll be prompted to complete the first of Professor Rackham's four ancient magic trials. Completing this quest will open the second mandatory quest to unlock Alohom*ora.
  2. The Caretaker's Lunar Lament: Once you're back in Hogwarts, make your way to the Reception Hall and talk to Gladwin Moon to start the quest. The quest starter is just above the Grand Staircase Floo Flame location. Mr. Moon will teach you the Alohom*ora Charm to get into a restricted castle section during the quest.

Acquiring all 9 Demiguise Statues will also complete the second quest from Mr. Moon, The Man Behind The Moons. As a reward, Mr. Moon will teach you both advanced levels of Alohom*ora that'll allow you to pick Level II and Level III locks—which often contain far better loot than those of Level I locks.

How to Use Alohom*ora

To use Alohom*ora, approach and interact with a lock to cast the Unlocking Charm—this will trigger a lockpicking mini-game you need to crack to open the door.

The mini-game is relatively straightforward; all you need to do is move the inner and outer circles slowly until you get to the point where the gears in the bottom right (Green) and the middle (Red) start rotating.

  • Keep the circles in place for a second, and the lock should be picked, allowing you to get inside the door and grab whatever is inside.
  • You can also use Alohom*ora on locked chests.
